Cappadocia
We celebrated our one-year anniversary in amazing Cappadocia, a place of underground cities and churches, 'fairy chimneys', and rock formations that developed over time from volcanic ash, layers of tuff and basalt, and erosion.
These rock formations are some of the most famous in the region... on the left is Mother with Child (note the small ledge of rock held by the larger one) with Father on the right, and way in the back, Grandfather. In Turkish they are called Anne, Cocuk, ve Baba. It seemed appropriate to take a picture in next to them.
Devrim on 'Camel Rock'... 1 and 2, in a valley noted for its unusual rock shapes.

17 weeks
Last weekend I went to Kerpe, on the Black Sea, with my friends Martina and Levent. Devrim enjoyed a Sunday afternoon watching a motorcylce dirt bike race on the other side of Istanbul. Kerpe is only 45 minutes from Izmit and is beautiful, with natural rock formations. Levent was brave enough to go swimming, but Martina and I were more content to watch. We ate lunch by the sea (food always tastes better on a picnic!) and even found a secluded spot where there were few humans, only cows.
